The WhizScreen app can run 24/7 and will keep your device awake ensuring an always-on experience (don’t forget to connect it to power). The WhizScreen app is designed to turn your tablet/screen into a digital clock, a digital picture frame, a news reader etc. Here are some screenshots of the different pages that can be displayed on your WhizScreen:
Now the fun begins, lets say you have WhizScreen running on a tablet that is located in your living room, you have decided to use this WhizScreen as a digital picture frame so you can look at photos you took during your trip to Yellowstone. You are sitting on the couch and you see a nice photo displayed on your WhizScreen, you want your spouse to see this photo too. If you have Amazon Alexa connected to your WhizScreen you can just say, “Alexa ask WhizScreen to pause”, and WhizScreen will stop rotating pictures ensuing your spouse can come to the living room and watch the photo.
You may also say “Alexa, ask WhizScreen to dislike“, which will make sure the photo that is currently displayed will never be shown again.
To make things more interesting, lets say you are using the WhizScreen SmartApp with your SmartThings hub. You have set a rule that will notify your WhizScreen in case a motion sensor is triggered. You are at work and something triggers the motion sensor, immediately WhizScreen is notified and as a result will change its page to (accompanied by a sound):
You are back at home, and you trigger a motion sensor that indicates that you are back home, using another policy you can ensure your living room WhizScreen is changed to show the latest news.
To make things even easier, you can choose to use any Amazon Alexa compatible device, like the Amazon Echo to talk to your screen. say “Alexa, ask WhizScreen to change to page pictures frame”, will change your WhizScreen back to the picture frame page.
Want to do it manually, no problem, you can click on the menu button on the screen and manually change pages:
Say, “Alexa, ask WhizScreen to set a timer for 2 minutes” and WhizScreen will show you a timer for 2 minutes. No need to guess how much time is left.
When the time is up, WhizScreen will play a sound until you click the clear button or you say, “Alexa, ask WhizScreen to clear”.
Want to wake up in the morning to a youtube clip? Set a WhizScreen timer to 7am so at 7am your WhizScreen will start playing your YouTube clip:
And it is not only YouTube, you may ask to display any Web page on your screen for example your favorite weather website.
WhizScreen also has an API so you can use it with other smart home services like IFTTT, but more on that in an upcoming blog post.
